The charity was set up in memory and honour of Donna Marie Smith by her four sisters - Charlotte, Josephine Jnr, Charmaine and Roma. The loss of losing such a dear sister meant that the girls could not sit down and let her death simply be another passing of a loved one, as her life meant too much when she was alive. They somehow wanted her spirit and love of life and children to he carried on for many years to come.

In December I999, a few short months after Donna's death, the girls wondered how they could bring in the Millennium without feeling such a gaping hole in their lives without their sister beside them, the grief and pain was becoming unbearable.

So on Boxing Day the girls sat down and did some brainstorming. It was then that Wish House was born and in January 2000 the girls aspired to become one of the most recognised children's charities in the northwest. The girls wrote to many companies and gained the public support that took them to heights they never thought they would go with the charity and before long parents were writing to them asking them to grant the wishes of their sick children.

In summer of 2000, the charity took on another level and the girls attracted big star names to support their works, and when the support came it came in ways that earned the girls the local title of 'the charity with the stars'.

It was then that the annual celebrity auction was held every year and streams of items that belonged to a-list stars to sporting stars poured in, and in effect raised thousands of pounds for much needed causes and wishes.

Think a wish you've always wished,
And hold it in your heart
Remember this and keep it safe,
And then you've made a start
And when you wake and see the sun,
You'll see it could come true
A million wishes, a million dreams,
For that's what Wish House do
For you.
